Gestational diabetes

Gestational Diabetes, also known as gestational diabetes mellitus, GDM is a condition which is shown by women with no previous history of diabetes to have high levels of blood sugar in their blood in the time of their pregnancy. It is not exactly known how this type of diabetes is caused, but it believed that in the time of pregnancy, the body produces a lot of different hormones, causing an increased resistance to insulin.

Gestational diabetes is a treatable condition in most cases, though there is a risk of catching Type II of diabetes after pregnancy for the mother. Also the newborns of mothers who have the gestational diabetes have a risk of being obese and catching type II diabetes later in their own life.
